Here is what people are saying:
"The best of a string of inexpensive guesthouses along the main road in Esperanza, this place has an unbeatable location across from the Malecon, or waterfront promenade. For more than 20 years, owners Janet and Harry have infused the place with an easy-going vibe for a high visitor return rate. A lively bar popular with expats and known for daily happy hour is located off the excellent restaurant, which serves killer conch fritters and Sunday night paella. Looking to go off-site? A number of bars and restaurants are only a stone's throw away on bustling Calle Flamboyán. Rooms are basic but have funky touches like wall murals. They share several terraces, all of which overlook the ocean." - Fodors 2012 Trade Winds Review
"Looking back over the time we spent at the Trade winds Guesthouse I dont even know where to start. This place is amazing. The staff and the owners are the nicest people I have ever met. They made us feel right at home. The room was hand painted it was so cool. If we had a request for something it was done right away. The view was amazing the patio over looks the ocean of clear blue water and a beautiful board walk/beach. The food was amazing it was my favorite place to eat in Esperanza the sea food is so fresh. "I would recommend the sea bass or the lobster." There is a little gift shop there with some really cool T-shirts dresses and other stuff all of it was nice!!! I loved the hats!! Cant wait to go back next year." - Trip Advisor Review
“I love this hotel, bare bones but clean and friendly. And the views are stunning! Walk to cafes along the Malecon, or just jump right into the sea! Continental breakfast is provided and for dinner, they probably have the best restaurant in Esperanza. I've stayed here every year for the past 10 years. It hasn't changed a bit.” -G. from Orlando
“Great place and island. Food, the best on the island. Staff nice and friendly. When we travel to the Caribbean, we always switch our attitudes to island living. That way we are relaxed and enjoy the local culture.” Mike from Mass.
“David's scallops were one of our favorite dishes. Sitting in the open air overlooking the water - perfect end to a beautiful day. Had tried a few other places on the "strip" but ended up at the Trade Winds for 3 of our 7 nights due to the great meals and friendly staff. Looking forward to going back next winter.....” -Mamie from Boston
“I have stayed here twice by myself and both times just fell in love with the place. I'm no longer a backpacker and have stayed at some very nice $400 a night hotels all over the world, but I find motels like the Trade Winds such a haven.
It's right on the water, has a good restaurant and bar, clean simple rooms, a gift shop where you can buy a bathing suit, t-shirt and sun tan lotion. You could arrive here with a knapsack, stay for a week and walk away with a bill less than what you would spend in most Caribbean hotels for a night. Oh, and yes, the owners are a great couple...they run a good business. Most definitely. Adds to the experience in my opinion.” -G. from New York
“Unbelievably great restaurant, delightful, views stunning. When traveling the islands, this is an oasis to the travelers ready for a unique island experience. The rooms are clean, no frills. The owners are usually on the premise and are friendly and accommodating. Great little gift shop. Easy walking distance to beaches and snorkeling.” -starry island nights
“We loved this place! We came during low season (beginning of September '09) and ended up staying an extra night. We would have stayed the whole week if we hadn't already been paid up at a hotel in San Juan. This was just what we were looking for in a vacation. The owners and bartenders were extremely friendly and laid back. The restaurant/bar area overlooking the ocean was definitely our favorite (besides the rum punch!). The room is very simple, but who wants to sit in the room during a beautiful Caribbean day? We plan to come back to Vieques and stay here again as soon as we possibly can!”- F. from Oregon
